Etoricoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and other types of pain. It is available in tablet form and is usually taken once a day with or without food. The recommended dose of etoricoxib is 90 mg once daily. It is important to take etoricoxib exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than the recommended dose.

1. What Etoricoxib is and what it is used for

Etoricoxib belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX). This helps to reduce pain and inflammation.

Etoricoxib is used to treat the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also used to treat acute pain and gout.

2. What you need to know before you take Etoricoxib

Do not take Etoricoxib

• if you are allergic to etoricoxib or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

• if you have had an asthma attack, hives or a runny nose after taking aspirin or any other NSAID.

• if you have had a stomach ulcer or bleeding in the stomach or intestines in the past.

• if you have severe heart failure.

• if you have severe liver or kidney problems.

• if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

• if you are taking other medicines that contain etoricoxib or any other NSAID (see section “Other medicines and Etoricoxib”).

• if you have or have had any heart, liver or kidney problems.

Etoricoxib with food and drink

You can take Etoricoxib with or without food.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Do not take Etoricoxib if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

Etoricoxib may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you are affected, do not drive or use any tools or machines.

Etoricoxib contains lactose

If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.

Storage

Etoricoxib 90 mg should be stored at a temperature between 15°C and 30°C. It should be kept away from direct sunlight and moisture.
