Walmart Is Recalling Over 25,500 Bags of These Chips — Eat This Not That

Walmart is recalling over 25,500 bags of its Great Value Nacho Cheese Flavored Tortilla Chips due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The chips were sold in 10-ounce bags with a UPC code of 078742095391 and a best-by date of June 28, 2021.

The recall was issued after the company received a notification from its supplier that the seasoning used in the chips may have been contaminated with Salmonella. The company is urging customers to check their pantries for the affected product and to discard it or return it to the store for a full refund.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. If you have eaten any of the recalled chips and experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

If you have purchased the recalled chips, Walmart is offering a full refund. Customers can return the product to the store for a full refund or contact Walmart Customer Care at 1-800-WALMART for more information.

If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to the recalled chips, try making your own tortilla chips at home. You can use whole wheat or corn tortillas, cut them into triangles, and bake them in the oven with a light coating of olive oil and your favorite seasonings. This is a great way to enjoy a crunchy snack without the worry of potential contamination.

More than 2,500 cases of tortilla chips sold at Walmart are being recalled because they could be contaminated with a foreign material.

The 13-ounce bags of Great Value Restaurant Style White Corn Tortilla Chips may contain metal, according to a notification sent by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The chips were sold at Walmart stores in Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Because Shearer’s Foods initiated the recall late February, the chips are unlikely to be on Walmart shelves—but they may still be lurking inside your pantry. The recalled items have a lot code of 112051## or 123051## and a “Best By” date of May 23, 2022.

No other information, such as if there had been any injuries or illnesses related to the recall or how it was discovered, were provided. Eat This, Not That! has reached out to Walmart for more details.
