When you think of Dairy Queen, burgers aren’t the first thing that comes to mind. But the chain is working on changing that.
The popular ice cream and dessert mecca is expanding into the burger realm in a big way. Last week, it launched a line of five Stackburgers, in a move that has been described as the most significant product rollout for the company in the past two decades.

“I would say it’s one of the first true menu strategies that we’ve had within the Dairy Queen system in a very, very long time,” said CEO Troy Bader.
The Signature Stackburger menu is made up of five new cheeseburger creations, each of which starts with 100% seasoned real beef and a toasted bun, and customers can choose if they’d rather have a double or triple patty. From there, DQ piles on a variety of toppings to complete the flavor profile.
The first new cheeseburger is called the FlameThrower. Made to be spicy with “fiery” FlameThrower sauce and jalapeño bacon, the cheeseburger is topped with tomato and lettuce and pepper jack cheese. But it’s not the only new DQ delicacy that features specialized slices of bacon. The Loaded A.1.piles on a thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon and then slathers the patty with A.1. Thick & Hearty Steak Sauce and creamy peppercorn sauce. The Loaded A.1. is made complete with Sharp American and crunchy onion rings.
The remaining three new cheeseburgers move into more traditional territory, but that doesn’t make them any less novel for Dairy Queen’s customers. There’s the Bacon Two Cheese Deluxe, which is a bacon cheeseburger made with two types of cheese—sharp American and white cheddar—thick-cut Applewood smoked bacon, tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and mayo.
Then there’s the Two Cheese Deluxe, which features all of the same ingredients as the Bacon Two cheese deluxe minus the bacon, and the Original Cheeseburger, which keeps things simple with just a layer of sharp American, pickles, ketchup, and mustard.
These new Signature Stackburgers are already available at all DQ Grill & Chill locations—which account for some 72% of Dairy Queen’s 4,300 American locations. They’ll also be launching in Canada.
