Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. It is important to be aware of the products that have been recalled and to avoid consuming them. In this article, we will provide information on the recalled products and tips on how to stay safe when shopping for groceries.

This Major Grocery Chain Is Recalling Dozens of Products Over Possible Listeria Contamination

Grocery shoppers, beware: a major grocery chain is recalling dozens of products due to possible listeria contamination. The recall affects products sold at stores in the United States and Canada.

The grocery chain, which has not been named, is recalling a variety of products, including deli meats, cheeses, and salads. The products were sold in stores between April 1 and June 30, 2020.

The recall was issued after the company received a notification from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that a sample of one of its products tested positive for listeria monocytogenes. The CFIA is currently investigating the source of the contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeria infection include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea.

The grocery chain is urging customers to check their refrigerators and freezers for any of the recalled products. Customers who have purchased any of the recalled products should not consume them and should return them to the store for a full refund.

If you have any questions about the recall, you can contact the grocery chain’s customer service department at 1-800-XXX-XXXX.

Eat This Not That

If you’re concerned about listeria contamination, it’s important to be aware of the foods you’re eating. Here are some tips to help you avoid listeria:

  • Avoid eating raw or undercooked meats, poultry, and seafood.
  • Avoid unpasteurized dairy products.
  • Avoid processed meats, such as hot dogs and deli meats.
  • Avoid raw sprouts.
  • Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating.
  • Cook food to the proper temperature.
  • Refrigerate leftovers promptly.

By following these tips, you can help reduce your risk of listeria contamination.

If you recently purchased fresh-cut fruit, vegetables, or ready-to-eat dips, you’re going to want to check your refrigerator.

Fruit Fresh Up, Inc. has issued a recall of more than 30 products sold at Wegmans and other stores due to the possibility of listeria contamination.

According to a notice posted by the FDA on Sunday, the recall applies to fresh-cut fruits and vegetables packaged in clear plastic containers with a tamper-evident seal and “Best if Used By” dates between March 5, 2022, and March 23, 2022.

The ready-to-eat dips were sold in seven-ounce clear plastic clamshell containers bearing “Best if Used By” dates between March 15, 2022, and March 31, 2022.

Among the 32 affected items are watermelon, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, and other packaged produce that were processed at the Fruit Fresh Up production facilities in Depew, NY. See the full list of recalled products here.

The fruits, vegetables, and dips were sold under the brand names of Wegmans, Fresh Harvest, Lexington Co-Op, and Tops and were distributed in New York and surrounding states.

According to Wegman’s website, packages with the eight-digit code “02101XXX” beneath the “Best if Used By” date indicate that the item is safe to eat. Additionally, customers can return recalled products to Wegman’s customer service desk for a full refund.

Although there have been no reported illnesses, consumers who still have these items in their homes are urged to throw them away. While healthy individuals who are infected with listeria may experience short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, muscle stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, the bacteria can also cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections” in young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA.

If you have any additional questions related to the recall,  you can call Fruit Fresh Up, Inc. at 716-684-3400 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. E.T.
