Taco Bell is causing quite a stir among customers again, and this time, it’s thanks to a looming shortage.

The chain’s Mexican Pizza, which made its way back onto menus on May 19 following an 18-month-long hiatus, is in short supply. Due to the item’s unprecedented popularity, ingredients are sparse, which means fans will need to say goodbye to the pizza just a few short days after getting it back.

“Our fans’ love is all-consuming, and they’re consuming all the Mexican Pizzas. Demand for the Mexican Pizza was seven times higher than when it was last on menus, and replenishing the beloved menu item is taking longer than we’d like,” Taco Bell said on its website, confirming that the item will be gone for several months.

The news of the shortage began emerging on May 25 when a Reddit user posted a screenshot of an alleged internal email from Taco Bell. It read, in part, “Because of the incredible love for the Mexican Pizza, we have begun selling out across the country. We will communicate this to our fans later this week. The Mexican Pizza will return later this year; you’ll hear more from us as that date approaches.”

A day later, on May 26, the chain tweeted that the TikTok musical, featuring Dolly Parton and Doja Cat, that had been planned as part of the beloved item’s promotion, is being postponed.

Currently, Taco Bell’s website includes answers to all questions surrounding the status of the Mexican Pizza.

“Shortages of the Mexican Pizza were unexpected, and have occurred on a rolling basis. We communicated the news to our team members first to ensure they had all of the information and support they’d need to continue serving our guests in our restaurants,” the chain says, stating the item should be back on the menus in the fall as a permanent menu addition.

The Mexican Pizza consists of seasoned beef and beans sandwiched between two flat corn tostada chips, topped with Mexican pizza sauce, tomatoes, and a three-cheese blend. It normally sells for $4.49.
