1. What Rabeprazole 20mg Tablets are and what they are used for

Rabeprazole 20mg Tablets contain rabeprazole sodium, which is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Rabeprazole 20mg Tablets are used to treat the following conditions:

• Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)

• Peptic ulcer disease

• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

• Helicobacter pylori infection

2. What you need to know before you take Rabeprazole 20mg Tablets

Do not take Rabeprazole 20mg Tablets:

• if you are allergic to rabeprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

• if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

RABEPRAZOLE is a prescription medication used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems such as acid reflux, ulcers, and GERD. It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. Further information 1. WHAT RABEPRAZOLE IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR Rabeprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. It works by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach. Rabeprazole is used to treat the following conditions: • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) • Stomach and duodenal ulcers • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a rare condition where the stomach produces too much acid) 2. BEFORE YOU TAKE RABEPRAZOLE Do not take Rabeprazole if you: • are allergic (hypersensitive) to rabeprazole or any of the other ingredients of Rabeprazole (listed in section 6) • are pregnant or breast-feeding • are taking medicines containing nelfinavir (used to treat HIV infection) Take special care with Rabeprazole: • If you have liver problems, your doctor may want to monitor your liver function while you are taking Rabeprazole. • If you have kidney problems, your doctor may want to monitor your kidney function while you are taking Rabeprazole. • If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Do not take Rabeprazole if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Driving and using machines Rabeprazole is not known to affect your ability to drive or use machines. 3. HOW TO TAKE RABEPRAZOLE Always take Rabeprazole exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is: • Adults: The usual dose is one tablet a day. • Children: Rabeprazole is not recommended for use in children. If you take more Rabeprazole than you should If you take more Rabeprazole than you should, tell your doctor or go to the nearest hospital casualty department straight away. Take the medicine pack with you. If you forget to take Rabeprazole If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you stop taking Rabeprazole Do not stop taking Rabeprazole unless your doctor tells you to. 4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all medicines, Rabeprazole can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Stop taking Rabeprazole and tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects: • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing • Severe stomach pain • Severe diarrhoea • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) • Severe tiredness or weakness • Unusual bleeding or bruising • Signs of infection such as fever, chills, sore throat or mouth ulcers Other side effects include: • Headache • Dizziness • Diarrhoea • Constipation • Abdominal pain • Flatulence • Nausea • Vomiting • Dry mouth • Rash • Itching • Hair loss • Muscle pain • Joint pain • Fatigue • Fever • Abnormal liver function tests • Abnormal kidney function tests • Abnormal blood tests • Abnormal heart rhythm • Abnormal
