What Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets are and what they are used for Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets are a type of medicine called a calcium channel blocker. They work by blocking the movement of calcium into the cells of the body, which helps to relax the muscles in the blood vessels. This helps to reduce the pressure in the blood vessels and improve the flow of blood. Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets are used to treat a number of conditions, including: • migraine headaches • vertigo (a feeling of dizziness or spinning) • Raynaud’s phenomenon (a condition where the fingers and toes become cold and pale) • tinnitus (ringing in the ears) • Meniere’s disease (a condition that causes dizziness, ringing in the ears and hearing loss) 2. Before you take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets Do not take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets if you: • are allergic to flunarizine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6) • have a heart condition called ‘sick sinus syndrome’ • have a slow heart rate (bradycardia) • have a condition called ‘second or third degree heart block’ • have a condition called ‘atrioventricular block’ • have a condition called ‘prolonged QT interval’ • have a condition called ‘unstable angina’ • have a condition called ‘severe hypotension’ (low blood pressure) • are pregnant or breastfeeding. Take special care with Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets Before taking Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets, tell your doctor if you: • have a heart condition • have a liver or kidney condition • have a condition called ‘peripheral vascular disease’ (narrowing of the blood vessels in the arms and legs) • have a condition called ‘cerebrovascular disease’ (narrowing of the blood vessels in the brain) • have a condition called ‘coronary artery disease’ (narrowing of the blood vessels in the heart) • have a condition called ‘hypertension’ (high blood pressure) • have a condition called ‘diabetes’ • have a condition called ‘hyperlipidaemia’ (high levels of fats in the blood) • have a condition called ‘hypothyroidism’ (underactive thyroid gland) • have a condition called ‘hypokalaemia’ (low levels of potassium in the blood) • have a condition called ‘hyponatraemia’ (low levels of sodium in the blood) • have a condition called ‘hypocalcaemia’ (low levels of calcium in the blood) • have a condition called ‘hypomagnesaemia’ (low levels of magnesium in the blood) • have a condition called ‘hypophosphataemia’ (low levels of phosphate in the blood) • have a condition called ‘gout’ (a type of arthritis) • have a condition called ‘porphyria’ (a rare disorder of the blood) • have a condition called ‘myasthenia gravis’ (a condition that causes muscle weakness) • have a condition called ‘Parkinson’s disease’ (a condition that affects the nervous system) • have a condition called ‘epilepsy’ (a condition that causes seizures) • have a condition called ‘depression’ • have a condition called ‘schizophrenia’ (a mental health disorder) • have a condition called ‘bipolar disorder’ (a mental health disorder) • have a condition called ‘anxiety’ • have a condition called ‘alcoholism’ • have a condition called ‘drug addiction’ • are taking any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. This includes herbal medicines. This is because Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets can affect the way some other medicines work. Also some medicines can affect the way Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets work. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Do not take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Driving and using machines Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets may cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery. Important information about some of the ingredients of Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets This medicine contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. 3. How to take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets Always take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is one tablet taken once a day. Swallow the tablet with a glass of water. Do not chew the tablet. If you take more Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets than you should If you take more Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets than you should, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Take the medicine pack with you. This is so the doctor knows what you have taken. If you forget to take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you stop taking Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets Do not stop taking Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets unless your doctor tells you to. 4. Possible side effects Like all medicines, Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Stop taking Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets and see a doctor straight away if you get any of the following serious side effects: • an allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat; difficulty breathing or swallowing; rash or itching) • a fast or irregular heartbeat • chest pain • fainting • feeling weak or tired • yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice) • dark urine • severe stomach pain • severe constipation • severe diarrhoea • severe nausea or vomiting. Other side effects include: • headache • dizziness • drowsiness • blurred vision • dry mouth • constipation • diarrhoea • nausea • vomiting • stomach pain • rash • itching • hair loss • impotence • difficulty sleeping • depression • confusion • memory loss • muscle weakness • joint pain • increased sweating • weight gain • swelling of the hands, feet or ankles • increased urination • increased thirst • increased appetite • changes in blood tests. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original package. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment. 6. Further information What Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets contain The active substance is flunarizine. Each tablet contains 10 mg of flunarizine. The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, maize starch, povidone, magnesium stearate and colloidal anhydrous silica. What Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets look like and contents of the pack Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets are white, round, biconvex tablets. They are marked with ‘FL10’ on one side. They are available in packs of 28 tablets. HOW TO TAKE FLUNARIZINE 10 MG TABLETS Always take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is one tablet taken once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose to two tablets taken once a day if needed. Do not take more than two tablets in one day. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablets. Do not take Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets for more than three months without talking to your doctor. If you take more Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets than you should If you take too many tablets, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Take the medicine pack with you. This is so the doctor knows what you have taken. 4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all medicines, Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Stop taking Flunarizine 10 mg Tablets and tell your doctor straight away if you notice any of the following serious side effects: • Allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing. • Depression, feeling anxious, confusion, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide or self-harm. • Unusual tiredness, weakness or lack of energy. • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice). • Unusual bleeding or bruising. • Severe stomach pain, nausea or vomiting. • Unusual changes in your heart rate or blood pressure. • Unusual changes in your
