Drinks From 4 Popular Brands Sold at Costco and Walmart Are Being Recalled — Eat This Not That

By Ghuman

Introduction

If you’ve recently purchased drinks from four popular brands sold at Costco and Walmart, you may want to take note. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for these products due to potential contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. The brands affected are Kirkland Signature, Great Value, Signature Farms, and Marketside. The recalled products include various types of juices, teas, and lemonades. Consumers should check their refrigerators and pantries for these products and discard them immediately. Eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Consumers should be aware that drinks from four popular brands sold at Costco and Walmart are being recalled due to potential contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. The brands affected are:

  • Gatorade
  • Powerade
  • Propel
  • Gatorade Zero

The recall was issued by PepsiCo, the parent company of the brands, after routine testing revealed the presence of the bacteria in some of the drinks. The company is urging customers to discard any of the affected products they may have purchased.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. In rare cases, the bacteria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

The recalled drinks were sold in various sizes and flavors at Costco and Walmart stores in the United States. Customers who have purchased any of the affected products should return them to the store for a full refund.

The third-largest food and beverage company in North America announced a voluntary recall of powdered drink products sold under four beloved brand names in the U.S. and Canada because they could contain “very small pieces” of glass or metal.

All four of these beverage brands are popular with kids, so they may be present in your family’s pantry. That’s why you should know that Kraft Heinz is recalling select Arizona Tea, Country Time Lemonade, and Tang powdered beverages, as well as certain Kool-Aid powdered beverage products. According the manufacturer, the recall was initiated “due to the potential presence of foreign material, specifically very small pieces of metal or glass, that may have been introduced during production.” An internal review at a manufacturing facility reportedly uncovered the problem.
