Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a decongestant used to treat nasal congestion caused by allergies or the common cold. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nose, reducing swelling and congestion. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine used to treat allergies and the common cold. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

WHAT DEXTROMETHORPHAN HYDROBROMIDE 10MG + PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 5MG + CHLORPHENIRAMINE 2MG TABLETS ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets are a combination of three active ingredients: Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride and Chlorpheniramine. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is an antitussive (cough suppressant) which works by reducing the activity of the cough reflex. Phenylephrine Hydrochloride is a decongestant which works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages, reducing congestion. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine which works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance produced by the body during an allergic reaction. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets are used to relieve the symptoms of colds and allergies such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, and cough. 2. BEFORE YOU TAKE DEXTROMETHORPHAN HYDROBROMIDE 10MG + PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 5MG + CHLORPHENIRAMINE 2MG TABLETS Do not take Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets if you: • are allergic to dextromethorphan hydrobromide, phenylephrine hydrochloride, chlorpheniramine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6) • are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken one in the last 14 days • are pregnant or breast-feeding • are under 12 years of age Take special care with Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets: • If you have high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, enlarged prostate, glaucoma or difficulty in passing urine, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. • If you are taking other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Driving and using machines Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets may cause drowsiness or dizziness in some people. If you are affected, do not drive or operate machinery. Important information about some of the ingredients of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets This medicine contains lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. 3. HOW TO TAKE DEXTROMETHORPHAN HYDROBROMIDE 10MG + PHENYLEPHRINE HYDROCHLORIDE 5MG + CHLORPHENIRAMINE 2MG TABLETS Always take Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is: Adults and children over 12 years: Take 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours as needed, up to a maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours. Do not take more than 4 tablets in 24 hours. Do not give to children under 12 years. If you take more Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets than you should If you take more Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets than you should, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Take the medicine pack with you. This is so the doctor knows what you have taken. Symptoms of an overdose may include: • drowsiness • confusion • restlessness • agitation • hallucinations • seizures • irregular heartbeat • high blood pressure • coma If you forget to take Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose when it is due. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all medicines, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Stop taking the tablets and seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects: • swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing • severe skin reactions such as rash, itching, hives or peeling of the skin • signs of an allergic reaction such as wheezing, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat Other side effects include: • drowsiness • dizziness • dry mouth • headache • nausea • vomiting • restlessness • difficulty sleeping • blurred vision • increased heart rate • increased blood pressure • difficulty passing urine • increased sweating • rash • itching • hives • palpitations • tremor • confusion • agitation • hallucinations • seizures • irregular heartbeat • high blood pressure • coma If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. 5. Do not use Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine 2mg Tablets after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not store above 25°C. Store in the original package. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment. 6. The other ingredients are: Lactose, maize starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, colloidal anhydrous silica, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, titanium dioxide (E171), talc, carnauba wax, iron oxide yellow (E172) and iron oxide red (E172).
