Further information 1. What Desloratadine is and what it is used for Desloratadine is an antihistamine. It is used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other allergies such as dust or pet allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis). It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance produced by the body when it reacts to a foreign substance (allergen). 2. Before you take Desloratadine Do not take Desloratadine if: • you are allergic (hypersensitive) to desloratadine or any of the other ingredients of Desloratadine (listed in section 6) • you are taking medicines containing terfenadine, astemizole or mizolastine (used to treat allergies). Take special care with Desloratadine: • If you have kidney or liver problems, your doctor may want to monitor your condition more closely. • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, please tell your doctor before taking this medicine. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Taking Desloratadine with food and drink You can take Desloratadine with or without food. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Driving and using machines Desloratadine is not known to affect your ability to drive or use machines. 3. How to take Desloratadine Always take Desloratadine exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is: Adults and children 12 years and over: The recommended dose is one 5mg tablet once a day. Children 6 to 11 years: The recommended dose is one 2.5mg tablet once a day. Elderly: The recommended dose is one 5mg tablet once a day. If you take more Desloratadine than you should If you take more Desloratadine than you should, talk to a doctor or go to a hospital straight away. Take the medicine pack with you. This is so the doctor knows what you have taken. 4. Possible side effects Like all medicines, Desloratadine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may happen with this medicine: • headache • dry mouth • nausea • dizziness • tiredness • stomach pain • diarrhoea • rash • itching • difficulty sleeping If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store Desloratadine Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use Desloratadine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not store above 25°C. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help to protect the environment. 6. Further information What Desloratadine contains The active substance is desloratadine. Each tablet contains 5mg of desloratadine. The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 400, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide yellow (E172) and iron oxide red (E172). What Desloratadine looks like and contents of the pack Desloratadine 5mg Tablets are yellow, round, biconvex tablets, marked ‘D5’ on one side and plain on the other. They are available in packs of 7, 14, 15, 20, 28, 30, 50, 56, 60, 84, 90, 100, 112, 120, 168, 180, 200, 250, 500 and 1000 tablets. Not all pack sizes may be marketed. WHAT DESLORATADINE 5MG TABLETS ARE AND WHAT THEY ARE USED FOR Desloratadine 5mg Tablets are a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other allergies such as dust or pet allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis). Desloratadine 5mg Tablets can also be used to relieve the symptoms of skin allergies such as hives (urticaria). Desloratadine 5mg Tablets contain the active ingredient desloratadine, which is an antihistamine. Histamine is a substance produced by the body as part of an allergic reaction. Desloratadine 5mg Tablets work by blocking the action of histamine and so relieving the symptoms of allergies. 2. BEFORE YOU TAKE DESLORATADINE 5MG TABLETS Do not take Desloratadine 5mg Tablets if you: • are allergic (hypersensitive) to desloratadine or any of the other ingredients of Desloratadine 5mg Tablets (listed in section 6) • are pregnant or breast-feeding, unless your doctor tells you to. Take special care with Desloratadine 5mg Tablets: • If you have kidney or liver problems, your doctor may want to monitor your condition more closely while you are taking Desloratadine 5mg Tablets. • If you have a rare inherited blood disorder called porphyria. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. This is especially important if you are taking any of the following: • medicines used to treat depression such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or tricyclic antidepressants • medicines used to treat fungal infections such as ketoconazole or itraconazole • medicines used to treat HIV infection such as ritonavir • medicines used to treat epilepsy such as carbamazepine or phenobarbital • medicines used to treat anxiety such as diazepam • medicines used to treat high blood pressure such as beta-blockers • medicines used to treat heart problems such as digoxin • medicines used to treat infections such as erythromycin or clarithromycin • medicines used to treat stomach ulcers such as cimetidine • medicines used to treat schizophrenia such as chlorpromazine • medicines used to treat pain such as morphine • medicines used to treat asthma such as theophylline. Taking Desloratadine 5mg Tablets with food and drink You can take Desloratadine 5mg Tablets with or without food. Pregnancy and breast-feeding Do not take Desloratadine 5mg Tablets if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, unless your doctor tells you to. Driving and using machines Desloratadine 5mg Tablets are not known to affect your ability to drive or use machines. 3. HOW TO TAKE DESLORATADINE 5MG TABLETS Always take Desloratadine 5mg Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose is: Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: The usual dose is one tablet (5mg) once a day. Elderly: The usual dose is one tablet (5mg) once a day. Children aged 6 to 11 years: The usual dose is one tablet (2.5mg) once a day. Children under 6 years: Desloratadine 5mg Tablets are not recommended for children under 6 years of age. If you take more Desloratadine 5mg Tablets than you should If you (or someone else) swallow a lot of the tablets all together, or if you think a child has swallowed any of the tablets, contact your nearest hospital casualty department or your doctor immediately. An overdose of Desloratadine 5mg Tablets is unlikely to cause serious harm, but you may experience drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, palpitations, tremor, agitation, dizziness, confusion, headache, blurred vision, sweating, flushing, or seizures. If you forget to take Desloratadine 5mg Tablets If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you stop taking Desloratadine 5mg Tablets Do not stop taking Desloratadine 5mg Tablets unless your doctor tells you to. 4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS Like all medicines, Desloratadine 5mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may occur: Common (affects 1 to 10 users in 100): • headache • feeling tired or sleepy • dry mouth • nausea • abdominal pain • diarrhoea • dizziness • rash Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000): • difficulty sleeping • feeling anxious • feeling irritable • feeling depressed • feeling confused • feeling dizzy • feeling weak • feeling restless • feeling agitated • feeling disorientated • feeling numb • feeling hot • feeling cold • feeling sick • indigestion • vomiting • constipation • stomach discomfort • increased appetite • decreased appetite • increased Storage

Desloratadine 5mg should be stored at a temperature between 15°C and 30°C. It should be kept away from direct light and moisture.
