Chipotle Is Making This Menu Addition For the First Time In Its History

Chipotle is shaking up its menu in a big way. The Mexican fast-food chain is introducing a new item to its menu for the first time in its history: quesadillas. The new menu item will be available at all Chipotle locations starting on July 1.

The quesadillas will be made with a flour tortilla, melted cheese, and your choice of fillings. You can choose from steak, chicken, carnitas, barbacoa, sofritas, or veggies. The quesadillas will be served with a side of guacamole and sour cream.

Chipotle is also introducing a new drink to its menu: a mango agua fresca. The drink is made with mango, lime juice, and a hint of sugar. It’s a refreshing and fruity beverage that’s perfect for summer.

If you’re looking for something new to try at Chipotle, these two menu additions are sure to hit the spot. The quesadillas are a great way to get your fill of Mexican flavors, while the mango agua fresca is a great way to cool off on a hot day.

Chipotle is making major moves in the chicken arena. For the first time since its inception, the chain has announced it will be adding a brand new chicken option to the menu.

While until now, Chipotle’s chicken only came in one classic Adobo version, you’ll now also be able to try it in a new flavor debuting in limited test markets: Pollo Asado. In this iteration, the chicken is seasoned with guajillo and chili peppers, cumin, coriander, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice. It is grilled and then hand-chopped, just like the classic, and will appear as a primary protein alongside steak, carnitas, barbacoa, and sofritas.

“Chicken has long been the top protein choice among Chipotle guests,” said Chris Brandt, chief marketing officer for the chain. “With the celebrated Adobo chicken recipe already on our menu, we decided it was time to add another option and our new flavorful Pollo Asado chicken is another perfect complement to our real ingredients.”

Chipotle has recently tried out several new menu items, from Brisket (a limited-time test which proved so popular that the company ran out of supplies earlier than planned) to the permanent addition of fan-favorite Quesadilla and Cauliflower Rice. But the company is calling this its first menu innovation with chicken in its entire 28-year history.

For now, the new Pollo Asado will be rolled out as a test and only available at 95 restaurants—or around 3% of the chain’s total global locations—across Sacramento, Calif. and Cincinnati, Ohio. From November 8 until 14, the company will be waving delivery fees on orders placed through the Chipotle app if they include the new menu item. And the items itself? All we know is that it is currently only a temporary addition, available for a limited time.

It remains to be seen whether the Pollo Asado will draw in new business, draw devoted customers away from the core chicken option, or both.
