What Paracetamol 650mg Tablets are and what they are used for Paracetamol 650mg Tablets are used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever. They contain paracetamol, which is a painkiller and fever reducer. 2. Before you take Paracetamol 650mg Tablets Do not take Paracetamol 650mg Tablets if: • You are allergic (hypersensitive) to paracetamol or any of the other ingredients of Paracetamol 650mg Tablets (listed in section 6). • You have severe liver or kidney problems. • You are taking other medicines containing paracetamol. • You are taking other medicines which can affect the way paracetamol works. These include: – Warfarin or other medicines used to thin the blood – Metoclopramide or domperidone, used to treat nausea and vomiting – Colestyramine, used to lower cholesterol – Probenecid, used to treat gout – Zidovudine, used to treat HIV infection – Rifampicin, used to treat infections – Carbamazepine, used to treat epilepsy – Phenobarbital, used to treat epilepsy and insomnia – Phenytoin, used to treat epilepsy – Isoniazid, used to treat tuberculosis – St John’s Wort, used to treat depression – Cimetidine, used to treat stomach ulcers – Chloramphenicol, used to treat infections – Oral contraceptives, used to prevent pregnancy – Methotrexate, used to treat cancer and rheumatoid arthritis – Antibiotics, used to treat infections – Sulphonamides, used to treat infections – Antivirals, used to treat viral infections – Antifungals, used to treat fungal infections – Antihistamines, used to treat allergies – Tricyclic antidepressants, used to treat depression – Monoamine oxidase inhibitors, used to treat depression – Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), used to treat pain and inflammation – Aspirin, used to treat pain and inflammation – Alcohol. Take special care with Paracetamol 650mg Tablets: • If you have liver or kidney problems. • If you are taking other medicines which can affect the way paracetamol works (see section 2). • If you are taking other medicines containing paracetamol. • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. • If you are elderly. • If you have a history of alcohol abuse. • If you have a history of stomach ulcers. • If you have a history of asthma. • If you have a history of heart problems. • If you have a history of blood disorders. • If you have a history of diabetes. • If you have a history of thyroid problems. • If you have a history of kidney problems. • If you have a history of liver problems. • If you have a history of mental health problems. • If you have a history of epilepsy. • If you have a history of allergies. • If you have a history of gout. • If you have a history of high blood pressure. • If you have a history of stroke. • If you have a history of glaucoma. • If you have a history of porphyria. • If you have a history of any other medical condition. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. 3. How to take Paracetamol 650mg Tablets Always take Paracetamol 650mg Tablets exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is: Adults and children over 12 years: Take 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed, up to a maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours. Children aged 6 to 12 years: Give 1 tablet every 4 to 6 hours as needed, up to a maximum of 4 tablets in 24 hours. Do not give more than 4 tablets in 24 hours. Children under 6 years: Do not give Paracetamol 650mg Tablets to children under 6 years of age. If you take more Paracetamol 650mg Tablets than you should: If you take more Paracetamol 650mg Tablets than you should, contact your doctor or nearest hospital casualty department immediately. Take the container with you, even if it is empty. Symptoms of an overdose may include: • Nausea • Vomiting • Loss of appetite • Sweating • Abdominal pain • Confusion • Drowsiness • Coma. If you forget to take Paracetamol 650mg Tablets: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose when it is due. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist. 4. Possible side effects Like all medicines, Paracetamol 650mg Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. All medicines can cause allergic reactions although serious allergic reactions are very rare. Any sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting your whole body) should be reported to a doctor immediately. Other side effects include: • Nausea • Vomiting • Loss of appetite • Skin rash • Itching • Headache • Dizziness • Tiredness • Confusion • Abdominal pain • Diarrhoea • Constipation • Blood disorders • Liver disorders • Kidney disorders • Allergic reactions. If any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store Paracetamol 650mg Tablets Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not store above 25°C. Do not use Paracetamol 650mg Tablets after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment. 6. Further information What Paracetamol 650mg Tablets contain: The active substance is paracetamol. Each tablet contains 650mg of paracetamol. The other ingredients are maize starch, povidone, sodium starch glycollate, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide yellow (E172) and iron oxide red (E172). What Paracetamol 650mg Tablets look like and contents of the pack: Paracetamol 650mg Tablets are white, round, biconvex tablets.
