9 Ways to Save Money at Popular Steakhouse Chains — Eat This Not That

Steakhouse chains are a great way to enjoy a delicious steak dinner without breaking the bank. But if you’re looking to save even more money, there are a few tricks you can use to get the most bang for your buck. Here are nine ways to save money at popular steakhouse chains.

1. Look for Specials and Deals

Many steakhouse chains offer specials and deals throughout the week. Check the restaurant’s website or social media pages for any current promotions. You may be able to get a discounted meal or a free appetizer with your purchase.

2. Take Advantage of Early Bird Specials

Many steakhouse chains offer early bird specials, which are discounted meals for those who arrive before a certain time. These specials are usually available during the weekdays and can save you a lot of money.

3. Join the Loyalty Program

Many steakhouse chains offer loyalty programs that reward customers for their repeat business. Sign up for the program and you’ll get access to exclusive discounts and promotions. You may even get a free meal on your birthday.

4. Order the Smaller Portions

Many steakhouse chains offer smaller portions of their signature dishes. These smaller portions are usually cheaper than the full-sized versions and can still satisfy your craving for steak. Plus, you’ll have more money left over for sides and drinks.

5. Skip the Appetizers

Appetizers can be expensive, so consider skipping them altogether. You can still enjoy a delicious steak dinner without the added cost of an appetizer.

6. Share a Meal

If you’re dining with a friend or family member, consider splitting a meal. This will save you money and you’ll still get to enjoy a delicious steak dinner.

7. Ask for a To-Go Box

If you’re ordering a large steak dinner, ask for a to-go box. This way, you can enjoy the leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day.

8. Look for Coupons

Many steakhouse chains offer coupons in local newspapers and magazines. Keep an eye out for these coupons and you may be able to save a few bucks on your next steak dinner.

9. Bring Your Own Bottle

Many steakhouse chains allow customers to bring their own bottle of wine or beer. This can save you a lot of money on drinks and you’ll still be able to enjoy a delicious steak dinner.

By following these tips, you can save money at popular steakhouse chains. So the next time you’re in the mood for a steak dinner, be sure to take advantage of these money-saving tips.

We love a good steakhouse from Ruth’s Chris to LongHorn to Texas Roadhouse, but what we also love (and you probably do too!) is a good deal. Yes, these steakhouses can be expensive, but employees and former employees have taken to TikTok, Reddit, and other social media platforms to share their secrets to save money and get your meals for less without sacrificing flavor.

As always, this can vary by location, so be sure to ask about any specials before ordering, or call and make sure they’re offering specific specials.

A former Texas Roadhouse employee spilled the beans on TikTok about this menu hack. The Filet Medallions, which come topped with peppercorn or mushroom sauce, contain 9 ounces of beef, for less than the normal filet, which is about 6 ounces. She also notes you can ask for it without the sauce.

Many chains offer discounts or free sides/appetizers/desserts to people over the age of 65 or those who have served in the military. LongHorn offers 10% off for veterans, as does Outback Steakhouse. Don’t be shy, it can’t hurt to ask your server, or call in advance if you’d prefer.

This honestly can work at almost any restaurant. A Texas Roadhouse employee shared on TikTok that if a dish comes with rice or mashed potatoes, you can swap out for almost any other side on the menu—which means you can go healthier, or potentially, more expensive. It’s worth asking!

If you join the Longhorn Steakhouse Email Club, you can get a free appetizer like steakhouse wings with the purchase of a meal the next time you go. Capital Grille Insiders get updates about new menu items and other opportunities. Landry’s Select Club offers specials at Landry’s, Del Friscos, and more. Outback’s Dine Rewards program will get you deals there, and at Fleming’s.  You’ll get regular emails from the restaurant with other deals as well.

While prices vary by location, the happy hour menu at Ruth’s Chris is a great way to sample the steakhouses’ offerings without running up a huge tab. You’ll find the burger, steak sandwich, tuna tartare, and usually a small filet paired with a nice glass of red for a nice price. Check with your local favorite, if you don’t have a Ruth’s Chris, they may have a happy hour menu too!

At many Texas Roadhouse restaurants, early diners get the bargains. Available Monday through Thursday before 6pm, the menu items are all around $10-$12, and yes, that includes steak (sirloin, chopped steak, and country fried) along with BBQ chicken, chicken tenders, pulled pork, and more.

Morton’s Steakhouse has a bar bites menu that varies by location, but is usually available at most locations. We’ve tried mini burgers, oysters and other bites for a lot less at this upscale spot, and many other smaller steakhouses will also offer small plates at the bar.
